• How do I Register / Renew my IVSA membership online?

You can register to become a member of IVSA by visiting http://visualsociology.org/membership.html, and following the instructions there.

Here are the steps

a. Go to http://visualsociology.org/membership.html
b. New members choose "Click here to continue", renewing members fill in your username and password and click the submit button.
d. Fill in or verify your personal information.
e. Click on Account Details, then select the appropriate membership.
f. Please consider making a donation.
g. Click submit and you will be taken to the PayPal web site in order to make your payment.
h. You can either pay via PayPal, or pay via a credit card (click on the “click here” where it says, “If you do not currently have a PayPal account”).
i. Enter your payment details and submit.
j. You will then receive an email from IVSA with your userid and password. Save this userid and password. You will use this userid and password to register for conferences, renew your membership, and sign in to the member's area of the web site.
* NOTE: renewing members will not receive new username and password information in their confirmation e-mail.

• How do I register for a Conference online?

You can register for the IVSA Conference online by visiting, http://visualsociology.org/register.php, and following the instructions there.

Here are the steps.

a. Go to http://visualsociology.org/register.php
b. If you are not already a member of IVSA you will need to follow the link, "Click here to continue", under the New Members heading. If you are already an IVSA member fill in your username and password in the appropriate fields and hit submit.
c. Fill in/verify your personal information.
d. Click on "Please choose the appropriate amount ..." and select the appropriate registration fee from the pull-down menu.
g. Click on submit and you will be taken to the PayPal web site in order to make your payment.
h. You can either pay via PayPal, or pay via a credit card (click on the “click here” where it says, “If you do not currently have a PayPal account”).
i. Enter your payment details and submit.
j. You will receive a confirmation e-mail from IVSA upon successful processing of your payment.

• I'm having problems with the PayPal web site

If you are having problems with the PayPal site, which are not related to the IVSA web site, you can get support from PayPal by visiting their web site.

• What is my username?

Your username and password are sent to you in your membership registration confirmation e-mail.

If you were already a member of IVSA before the web site was set up you should have received an e-mail from us with your username and password.

If you simply can not remember your username/password feel free to contact us and we would be happy to look it up for you.

• How do I change my password?

First you'll need to login to the member's area of the web site.
Once logged in there will be a link towards to top of the page for your "profile". Next click the link that says, "Change your password".

You will be asked to supply your current password, then your new password, and finally to verify that your new password is correct. Click the submit button and your password will be automatically changed.

Note: You may be required to sign in again after performing a password change.

• I lost my password, how do I get a new one?

If you know the e-mail address that you signed up with you can do so here. Simply enter your e-mail address, and if it matches what we have in our database your password will be reset and a new one sent to the e-mail address which you supplied.

If the e-mail address that you supply doesn't match the one in our database you will not be able to reset your password. If this is the case please contact us directly and we will reset your password for you manually.

Whenever you receive a new password from us via e-mail we strongly advise you to change your password after logging into the member's area of the web site. How do I change my password?

• My browser doesn't work with PayPal what should I do?

PayPal requires that your browser support cookies in order to use it's services, and that cookies are enabled. If you're using a modern browser and still having trouble please check to make sure that you are allowing the use of cookies.

If you're using an older browser that does not support the use of cookies please consider upgrading your browser to a newer version. If that is not an option you can also pay via credit card / ground-mail by contacting the IVSA treasurer Brian Gran.

•  I don't have a PayPal account, can I still use this service?

Yes, you can. Simply follow all the steps as you normally would and when you're taken to the PayPal web site and asked to login click on the link "click here if you do not currently have a PayPal account". This will allow you to pay via credit-card without having to have a PayPal account.

Alternately, you can pay by check using this method.

• How can I become a member without using PayPal?

If you would like to become a member of IVSA but to not have access to, or do not feel comfortable using PayPal please contact Brian Gran, IVSA Treasurer.

• How do I include my documents in the Teaching/Research sections of the web site?

Only members of IVSA are allowed to post content to the web site. If you are not already a member and would like to share please consider becoming a member.

a. Sign into the member's only area of the web site by clicking the "Member Sign In" link at the bottom right of any page.
b. Click "Post Content" from the list on the next page.
c. Click on "Insert a New Post"
d. Fill out the form, make sure that you choose a category for your document.
e. If you would like to upload a PDF or Word document click on the browse button and locate the file on your computer.
f. If you would like to link to an already existing web-page, or online document type the link into the appropriate field.
g. Click "Submit".
Check the appropriate page of the web site to make sure that your document was uploaded and is being displayed.

• How can I modify my documents in the Teaching/Research sections of the web site?

Follow the steps provided for including new documents, but instead of choosing to "Insert a New Post" select the document that you would like to modify from the list provided. (Note, if you have not uploaded any documents you will not see a list).

Modify the information that you would to change in the form that is presented after selecting the appropriate document and click the submit button to save your changes.

• How do I start my own photo-gallery on the web site?

Only members of IVSA are allowed to create photo-galleries on the web site. If you are not already a member and would like to share please consider becoming a member.

a. Sign into the member's area of the web site by clicking the "Member Sign In" link at the bottom right of any page.
b. Click "Photo Gallery" from the list on the next page.
c. Follow the on-screen instructions for creating your photo-gallery.

• Who should I contact for further help?

If you've read any and all questions from the FAQ that deal with the problems you are having, and still haven't been able to overcome them, or if your specific problem is not addressed by the FAQ please contact one of the appropriate people.
